16 KM SHORTY TRAIL

For the SHORTY TRAIL, you start in Haidmühle at 840 meters above sea level. After less than 300 meters, you’ll turn onto the famous Goldsteig before the trail leads through the wild primeval forest at Dreisessel, past the waterfalls, and via Kreuzbachklause straight toward the Czech Republic. A beautiful trail now winds its way along the old border path—once a death zone along the Iron Curtain—with a challenging climb up to the 1,333-meter summit of the Hochstein. From here on out, it’s all about “full concentration” on the 3-kilometer-long downhill: roots, granite boulders, and flowing trails await on the way back to the Haidmühler Filz.
